Subaru WRX GD25 and BRZ ZC15: Only 650 Manual Anniversary Cars

  • by

Only 650 cars. That is the full run of Subaru’s two new anniversary specials, the 2027 WRX GD25 and the 2027 BRZ ZC15. Both are manual only, and the WRX wears a carbon wing taken from a real rally car.

Subaru of America revealed the pair at Boxerfest 2026 in York, Pennsylvania. Each one is named after the chassis code that started its story in the United States.

Quick Facts

  • WRX GD25: 350 units, 2.4-litre turbo boxer, 271 hp, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, 6-speed manual with STI short shifter, arrives summer 2027
  • BRZ ZC15: 300 units, 2.4-litre boxer, 228 hp, rear-wheel drive, 6-speed manual only, arrives early 2027
  • Reservations: open in 2026
  • Price: not announced yet. Subaru will share pricing and full specs closer to launch.
  • Revealed: Boxerfest 2026, York, Pennsylvania (Subaru of America, 28 September 2026)

GD25: 25 Years of the WRX in America

The WRX first went on sale in the U.S. in 2002, on the GD chassis. Fans still call that first car the “Bugeye” because of its round headlights.

The GD25 is limited to 350 units. Every one is painted World Rally Blue and rides on 19-inch gold wheels, the blue-and-gold look that Subaru fans connect with the brand’s rally years.

A Real Rally Wing and Gold Brembos

The star part sits on the boot lid. The GD25 gets a dry carbon fibre swan-neck wing from Subaru Tecnica International (STI). Subaru says it is the same part used on Travis Pastrana’s WRX ARA25L rally car.

The rest of the hardware list:

  • Uprated Brembo brakes with gold-painted calipers
  • Stiffer springs, revised damping and a flexible strut tower bar
  • Bridgestone Potenza S007 tyres
  • Recaro seats with black Ultrasuede inserts and red stitching
  • STI shift knob and STI short shifter for the 6-speed manual

Under the bonnet there is no change. The engine is the same 2.4-litre turbocharged boxer with 271 hp that powers every 2026 WRX, sending power through Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

ZC15: The BRZ Goes White and Bronze

The BRZ arrived in 2012 on the ZC chassis, so the ZC15 marks 15 years. Only 300 units will be built, all in Brilliant Ceramic White, a colour you can only get on this edition.

It rides on matte bronze wheels and has bronze decals near the side sills. Subaru says the white-and-bronze look is a tribute to the 2020 BRZ tS.

Other extras:

  • Gold-painted Brembo calipers and a black boot spoiler
  • A flexible V-bar under the bonnet
  • Black leather-appointed seats with Bordeaux red inserts you won’t find on any other BRZ
  • STI aluminium and leather short shifter and a “ZC15” anniversary plaque

Power stays at 228 hp from the 2.4-litre boxer, with rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual only. That is the same output as its Toyota twin, the GR86.

How They Stack Up

The WRX GD25’s toughest rival is the Toyota GR Corolla, with 300 hp, all-wheel drive and a choice of manual or 8-speed automatic. Honda’s Civic Type R makes 315 hp but drives only the front wheels. On paper, the 271 hp WRX gives away power to both.

The BRZ ZC15 has the same engine and power as the GR86, so this edition is about colour, cabin and rarity. Toyota plays the same game with its own special GR86 editions, such as the Yuzu and Hakone cars.

Subaru has made Boxerfest a stage for this kind of car. Last year, Boxerfest 2025 hosted the public debut of the limited Series.Yellow WRX and BRZ, 350 of each.

Our Take

This is our opinion: the GD25 is the one we would reserve. World Rally Blue, gold wheels and a wing from a real rally car tick every box for a WRX fan. The weak point is power. At 271 hp, it has no more power than a regular WRX, and fans who want a true STI will still be waiting.

The ZC15 is quieter but classy, and the Bordeaux red cabin is a nice touch. With just 300 made, we expect it to be hard to find. The big unknown for both cars is price, and that will decide if they are worth it.

Your Turn

Which one would you put in your garage: the blue-and-gold WRX GD25 or the white-and-bronze BRZ ZC15? Tell us in the comments.
