HRC’s first road-car parts: lighter forged wheels for the Civic Type R

Honda’s racing arm is about to sell parts you can bolt onto your own car. The first HRC Performance Parts include a forged 19-inch wheel for the Civic Type R and Integra Type S that weighs 2.5 kg (5.5 lb) less than the factory wheel.

HRC US announced the range on 22 October. It shows the parts at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas on 3-6 November, and sales start in March 2027 at Honda and Acura dealers in the USA.

A wheel from the Acura race car supplier

HRC built the Type R wheel with 2elle-engineering, the Italian company that makes the wheels for the Acura ARX-06 prototype race car. It is half an inch wider than the factory wheel and has thin spokes in a grey finish that copies the ARX-06 wheel.

There is also an optional bronze finish. HRC says it is a tribute to the Honda RA272, the first Honda F1 car to win a race. HRC did the final testing of the wheel at the Nürburgring.

Across four corners the saving is about 10 kg of unsprung weight. Carscoops worked out the same total, 22 lb. Less weight in the wheels lets the suspension do its job better, and you feel it most when you turn in and when you brake.

A wider stance from the factory racing team

The new wheel has an offset of ET55. HRC says the wider wheel and the new offset give the car a wider track and stance, and that this helps the handling. Owners usually get that look from aftermarket wheels or spacers, so it is nice to see it come from Honda’s own racing company.

The parts fans really want are still prototypes

The more exciting items are not on sale yet. At SEMA, HRC will show adjustable coilovers with camber plates, a big Brembo brake kit with six-piston callipers and a short-throw shifter. HRC gives no dates or prices for them and says it will keep adding parts to the range.

For many Type R owners these are the first things they change. Mugen and many Japanese tuners already sell suspension and brake upgrades for the FL5, so HRC is walking into a busy market.

Two years in the making

HRC first said at SEMA 2024 that it would sell parts for road cars in North America. In May 2026, HRC president Koji Watanabe told Carscoops that parts from the Civic Type R HRC Concept were heading to production. He said they were being developed for the USA as well as Japan, and would be sold one by one, not as a complete HRC edition car.

HRC US has only announced sales in the USA so far. Nothing has been said about Japan, Europe or Australia for this first range.

The off-road parts are for the Honda Pilot and Passport SUVs. Their 18×8 forged wheel comes from Titan 7 and takes 100 kg more load than the factory wheel. The Borla cat-back exhaust is made of 304 stainless steel. HRC says it flows up to 6% more and adds up to 1.9 inches (about 48 mm) of ground clearance.

How it compares

Toyota sells GR parts for the GR Corolla and GR86 through its dealers, and Subaru sells STI parts. Honda now has the same idea with a racing name on the box. The difference is that HRC ties the Type R wheel to a real race car, the ARX-06.

Our take

This is our opinion. A lighter forged wheel from the people who build Honda’s race cars is a good first product, and the Nürburgring testing will mean something to Type R fans.

The bad side: HRC hasn’t given a price, and the chassis parts most owners care about are still prototypes. The range is also US-only for now. If HRC prices the wheels close to the big Japanese forged-wheel brands and brings the chassis parts to Japan, it could be a real choice for FL5 owners.
