More than four decades after the original concept that introduced the world to the Honda NSX, a new chapter is set to begin. Pininfarina, in collaboration with JAS Motorsport, has revealed plans to reimagine the iconic Japanese supercar through an ultra-limited restomod project known as Tensei, a Japanese word meaning rebirth.
The project aims to honor the legacy of the original NSX while integrating modern materials, motorsport-inspired engineering, and contemporary craftsmanship.
A Fusion of Japanese Heritage and Italian Design
The NSX Tensei is built around the original 1990s NSX chassis, preserving the car’s lightweight aluminum architecture and balanced mid-engine layout. However, the exterior has been completely reworked, featuring a custom carbon-fiber body designed by Pininfarina.
The result blends the recognizable proportions of the classic NSX with sharper, more modern surfaces, reflecting both Italian design influence and Japanese performance philosophy.
Motorsport-Inspired Powertrain
Powering the NSX Tensei is a tuned 3.5-liter V6 engine, developed with direct input from motorsport experience. The engine delivers approximately 420 horsepower, offering a significant performance increase over the original model while maintaining a naturally engaging driving character.
In a move likely to appeal to purists, the car retains a manual transmission, reinforcing the project’s focus on mechanical involvement and driver connection rather than outright numbers or automation.
Limited Production and Exclusivity
Production of the NSX Tensei will be strictly limited to 35 units worldwide, making it one of the rarest modern reinterpretations of a Japanese performance icon. According to project details, customer deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.
This level of exclusivity positions the Tensei among a growing group of high-end restomod vehicles aimed at collectors who value heritage, craftsmanship, and rarity.
